- The Home Ministry has launched the Land Port Management System (LPMS), ‘Vinimay’ to digitize and streamline cargo processing and passenger movement across India’s land borders.
- A land port is a designated entry and exit point on an international border that connects neighboring countries via roads or railways.
- 15 land ports are currently operational across India.
- Land Ports Authority of India is a statutory organization under the Ministry of Home Affairs for building land ports on borders, to provide secure, seamless & efficient systems for cargo & passenger movement with low trade transaction for promotion of regional trade.
- The system is a digital platform designed to integrate operations across land ports into a unified system.
- It will enable secure, real-time exchange of logistics and regulatory information, bringing land ports on a par with digital systems already in place at airports and seaports.
- The platform is expected to ensure seamless movement of goods and passengers across India’s international land borders.
