DAY-NRLM

About

  • Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihood Mission (DAY-NRLM) is a flagship poverty alleviation program implemented by the Ministry of Rural Development.
  • Launched in 2011 and aided in part through investment support by the World Bank, the Mission aims to reduce poverty by enabling the poor household to access gainful self-employment and skilled wage employment opportunities resulting in sustainable and diversified livelihood options for the poor.
  • It is implemented as a centrally sponsored scheme, jointly funded by the Centre and the States.

Components of DAY-NRLM

  • DAY-NRLM seeks to promote a comprehensive livelihoods approach encompassing four inter-related tasks:
    1. Mobilizing all rural, poor households into self-help groups (SHGs) and SHG federations;
    2. Enhancing access to credit and other financial, technical, and marketing services;
    3. Building capacities and skills for gainful and sustainable livelihoods;
    4. Improving the delivery of social and economic support services to the poor through convergence.
  • The Mission seeks to reach out to around 10 crore rural poor households and impact their livelihoods significantly.
    • It works towards bringing at least one member (preferably a woman) from all poor families into the SHG network.

Implementation

  • DAY-NRLM implementation is overseen by State Rural Livelihood Missions (SPVs), with District Mission Management Units (DMMUs) responsible for planning and execution at the district level.
  • At the block level, a Block Mission Management Unit implements the Mission activities.

Beneficiaries

  • NRLM’s priority is to reach out to the poorest, most vulnerable and marginalized. It begins with targeting women and they are considered as representatives of their households.
  • In case of extremely vulnerable persons like Persons with Disabilities (PwDs), elders etc., NRLM mobilizes both men and women.

eSARAS:

  • eSARAS is the official online marketplace of DAY-NRLM, built exclusively for products made by women Self-Help Groups and their federations.
