International Booker Prize

About

  • The International Booker Prize, a literary award presented annually, recognises the best works of long-form fiction or collections of short stories translated into English and published in the UK and/or Ireland. It was established in 2005
  • Formerly known as the Man Booker International Prize, the award carries a prize money of 50,000 pounds.
  • It is administered by the Booker Prize Foundation, a registered charity in the United Kingdom.

International Booker Prize vs Booker Prize:

  • The International Booker Prize is distinct from the Booker Prize, which was first awarded in 1969.
  • The key difference lies in the language of origin:
    • The Booker Prize is awarded to the best original novel written in English.
    • The International Booker Prize honours the best work of fiction translated into English from any other language.
  • Both awards serve as sister prizes within the Booker Prize Foundation.
