{"id":919,"date":"2026-03-11T09:29:46","date_gmt":"2026-03-11T09:29:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/materials.simplycurrentaffairs.com\/?p=919"},"modified":"2026-03-12T09:29:52","modified_gmt":"2026-03-12T09:29:52","slug":"essential-commodities-act-1955","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/materials.simplycurrentaffairs.com\/index.php\/2026\/03\/11\/essential-commodities-act-1955\/","title":{"rendered":"Essential Commodities Act, 1955"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#199668\" class=\"has-inline-color\"><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>Essential Commodities Act, 1955<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/mark><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\"><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>About<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/mark><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Essential Commodities Act (ECA) was enacted in 1955 to <strong>control and regulate trade and prices of commodities declared essential<\/strong> under the Act.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Act <strong>empowers the central government to notify certain commodities<\/strong> as essential commodities and to <strong>regulate or prohibit the production, supply, distribution, and trade<\/strong> of such essential commodities to control rising prices, prevent hoarding and maintain food security.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Most of the powers under the Act have been <strong>delegated by the Central Government to the State Governments.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The measures that can be taken under the provisions of the Act include <strong>licensing, distribution and imposing stock limits<\/strong>.
