  • India\u2019s economic growth <\/strong>is expected to touch 7.6%<\/strong> in<\/strong> the<\/strong> current<\/strong> financial<\/strong> year<\/strong> 2025-<\/strong> 26<\/strong> as per the second<\/strong> advance<\/strong> estimates<\/strong> of<\/strong> GDP<\/strong> based<\/strong> on<\/strong> the<\/strong> new<\/strong> and<\/strong> updated<\/strong> series<\/strong>. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • This is faster<\/strong> than<\/strong> the<\/strong> 7.4%<\/strong> predicted in the first advance estimates for 2025-26 released in January, which was based on the older series. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • The new<\/strong> series<\/strong> has revised<\/strong> downward<\/strong> the<\/strong> growth<\/strong> for<\/strong> 2023-24<\/strong> to<\/strong> 7.2%<\/strong> from the 9.2% estimated in the old series, and has revised<\/strong> upward<\/strong> the<\/strong> growth<\/strong> for<\/strong> 2024-25<\/strong> to<\/strong> 7.1%<\/strong> from the earlier estimate of 6.5%. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • According to the new data, India\u2019s nominal GDP <\/strong>\u2014 which is essentially the size of the economy \u2014 has been revised<\/strong> downward<\/strong> for<\/strong> the<\/strong> three<\/strong> years<\/strong> spanning<\/strong> 2023-26<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • The data in the new series shows that the size<\/strong> of<\/strong> the<\/strong> economy<\/strong> is expected to be \u20b9345.47 lakh<\/strong> crore<\/strong> in 2025-26,<\/strong> which is about 3.3%<\/strong> smaller<\/strong> than what was predicted in the first advance estimates based on the old series. \n

    • Further, the size of the economy in both 2023-24 and 2024 25 has been revised downward by 3.8% each. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Since the fiscal deficit<\/strong> is calculated as a share of GDP<\/strong>, a lower GDP base automatically pushes the ratio up<\/strong>, raising the 2025\u201126 (RE) fiscal deficit estimate<\/strong> from 4.36% to 4.51% of GDP<\/strong> even though the deficit amount itself is unchanged.\n
