  • KAVACH is an indigenously developed Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system <\/strong>by the Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO) <\/strong>in collaboration with the Indian industry.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • RDSO is a <\/em>research and development organization<\/em><\/strong> under the <\/em>Ministry of Railways.<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • It is an advanced electronic system designed at Safety Integrity Level 4 (SIL 4), one of the highest safety standards in signalling systems.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • This indicates that there is a 10,000-year chance of only one Kavach mistake.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Development of Kavach started in 2015<\/strong>. Currently in version 4 (Kavach 4.0<\/strong>), the technology is being implemented in a phased manner.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    How does the Kavach safety system work?<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/mark><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n
      \n
    • Kavach operates by automatically applying brakes<\/strong> to trains if the driver does not respond promptly.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • It uses RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) tags<\/strong> placed along tracks and in station yards to ensure safe train operations. When another train is detected on the same track within a predefined distance, the system alerts the locomotive pilot <\/strong>and, if required, automatically applies brakes <\/strong>through onboard equipment.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • The On Board Display of Signal Aspect (OBDSA)<\/strong> enables train operators to monitor signals in adverse visibility conditions,<\/strong> thereby decreasing reliance on manual visual inspections.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • \u00a0In addition, the system generates alerts during wrong-direction and reverse movements<\/strong> and provides automatic information on level crossing gates<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
