{"id":1372,"date":"2026-07-06T12:04:25","date_gmt":"2026-07-06T12:04:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/materials.simplycurrentaffairs.com\/?p=1372"},"modified":"2026-07-08T12:04:31","modified_gmt":"2026-07-08T12:04:31","slug":"government-e-marketplace","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/materials.simplycurrentaffairs.com\/index.php\/2026\/07\/06\/government-e-marketplace\/","title":{"rendered":"Government e-Marketplace"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-green-cyan-color\"><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>Government e-Marketplace<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/mark><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\"><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>About<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/mark><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Launched in <strong>2016<\/strong>, the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) is <strong>India\u2019s national public procurement portal <\/strong>with a mission to <strong>enhance transparency, efficiency and speed in public procurement.\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>fully digital, cashless platform <\/strong>is a <strong>100 percent government-owned non-profit company <\/strong>set up under the aegis of the <strong>Ministry of Commerce and Industry<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The government has made <strong>procurement of products and services available on GeM mandatory <\/strong>to all the <strong>central government ministries, departments and central government organisations.\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In 2022, the government gave its approval for expanding the mandate of GeM to <strong>allow procurement by Cooperatives as buyers on GeM.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>As per existing mandate, <strong>GeM is not available for use by private sector buyers.
