  • The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) is a statutory body<\/strong> established under the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority Act, 1985.<\/strong>  <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • The Authority replaced the Processed Food Export Promotion Council (PFEPC).<\/strong> <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • APEDA functions under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.<\/strong> <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • The Authority has its headquarters in New Delhi.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Functions of APEDA<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/mark><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    • Development of industries<\/strong> relating to the scheduled products for export;<\/strong> <\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Registration of persons as exporters<\/strong> of the scheduled products; <\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Fixing of standards and specifications <\/strong>for the scheduled products for the purpose of exports; <\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Carrying out inspection <\/strong>of meat and meat products in slaughterhouses, processing plants, storage premises, conveyances or other places for the purpose of ensuring the quality<\/strong> of such products; <\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Improving of packaging <\/strong>of the Scheduled products; <\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Improving of marketing <\/strong>of the Scheduled products outside India; <\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Promotion of export oriented production and development <\/strong>of the Scheduled products.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

        • Meat and Meat Products. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Poultry and Poultry Products. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Dairy Products. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Confectionery, Biscuits and Bakery Products. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Honey, Jaggery and Sugar Products. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Cocoa and its products, chocolates of all kinds. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Alcoholic and Non-Alcoholic Beverages. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Cereal and Cereal Products. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Groundnuts, Peanuts and Walnuts. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Pickles, Papads and Chutneys. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Guar Gum. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Floriculture and Floriculture Products. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Herbal and Medicinal Plants. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • De \u2013oiled rice bran. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Green pepper in brine. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Cashew Nuts and Its Products.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Basmati Rice<\/strong> has been included in the Second Schedule <\/strong>of APEDA Act. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • The Second Schedule of the APEDA Act was introduced by the APEDA (Amendment) Act, 2009<\/strong> to list products for which APEDA is mandated to protect intellectual property rights <\/strong>and facilitate registration<\/strong>, both within and outside India.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • In addition to this, APEDA has been entrusted with the responsibility to monitor import of sugar.<\/strong> <\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • APEDA also functions as the Secretariat to the National Accreditation Board (NAB) <\/strong>for the implementation of accreditation of the Certification Bodies under National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP) for Organic exports.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

          National Programme for Organic Production:<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n
            \n
          • NPOP was launched in 2001 <\/strong>by the Ministry of Commerce & Industry <\/mark><\/strong>for exports of Organic products.\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          • The programme involves the accreditation of Certification Bodies, standards for organic production, promotion of organic farming and marketing etc.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          • No organic products can be exported<\/strong> unless it is certified under NPOP.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          • APEDA<\/strong> acts as the Secretariat for the implementation of the NPOP.<\/mark><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

            BHARATI<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/mark><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

            • Bharat\u2019s Hub for Agritech, Resilience, Advancement and Incubation for Export Innovation (BHARATI) <\/strong>is APEDA\u2019s flagship export acceleration programme.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            • The initiative aims to foster innovation-led growth in the agri-food export sector.\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n
