  • The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) <\/strong>and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR)<\/strong> have jointly launched \u201cSEHAT \u2013 Science Excellence for Health through Agricultural Transformation\u201d,<\/strong> a national mission-mode programme designed to translate agricultural advancements into tangible health outcomes for citizens.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    • ICMR is the apex body<\/strong> in India for the formulation, coordination and promotion of biomedical research<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Established in 1911<\/strong>, the ICMR is funded by the Government of India<\/strong> through the Department of Health Research, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      • The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) is an autonomous organisation <\/strong>under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Formerly known as Imperial Council of Agricultural Research<\/strong>, it was established in 1929<\/strong> as a registered society<\/strong> under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 in pursuance of the report of the Royal Commission on Agriculture.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • The Council is the apex body<\/strong> for coordinating, guiding, and managing research and education in agriculture <\/strong>including horticulture, fisheries and animal sciences.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

        • The initiative aims to strengthen convergence between agricultural sciences and health research<\/strong> to address the emerging challenges of malnutrition, micronutrient deficiencies and nutrition insecurity<\/strong> through science-driven interventions and sustainable agricultural transformation.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • The mission focuses on five priority areas of national significance<\/strong>:\u00a0\u00a0\n

          1. Development and evaluation of biofortified and nutrient-dense crop varieties <\/strong>to address malnutrition and improve nutritional status;\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          2. Strengthening integrated farming systems<\/strong> to promote dietary diversification, enhance farm incomes, and build resilience;\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          3. Addressing occupational health risks<\/strong> among agricultural workers through targeted, evidence-based interventions;\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          4. Advancing agriculture-enabled strategies<\/strong> for the prevention and management of non-communicable diseases through the promotion of functional foods and nutritionally superior crop varieties; and\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          5. Strengthening \u2018One Health\u2019 preparedness<\/strong> through integrated surveillance, diagnostics, and research at the human\u2013animal\u2013environment interface.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
