was <strong>first published <\/strong>in the literary journal <strong>Bangadarshan<\/strong> in 1875.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Later, Bankim Chandra Chatterjee incorporated the hymn in his novel<strong> &#8216;Anandamath&#8217; <\/strong>which was published in 1882.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group border-list\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>Bankim Chandra Chatterjee:<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Bankim Chandra Chatterjee (1838\u20131894) was one of the most prominent figures of <strong>19th-century Bengal.\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>As a<strong> distinguished novelist, poet, essayist and civil servant <\/strong>his contributions significantly influenced the <strong>development of modern Bengali prose<\/strong> and the articulation of an emerging Indian nationalism.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>His notable works include<strong> Anandamath, Durgeshnandini, Kapalkundala, <\/strong>and <strong>Devi Chaudhurani.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group border-list\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>Ananda Math:<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ananda Math is set in the backdrop of the<strong> 1769-73 Bengal famine<\/strong>, which killed 10 million people, and the<strong> late-18th century Sanyasi Rebellion,<\/strong> a series of armed uprisings against the rule of<strong> Mir Jafar<\/strong> and his<strong> East India Company overlords.\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The central plot of &#8216;Ananda Math&#8217; revolves <strong>around a group of Sanyasins <\/strong>known as <strong>Santanas<\/strong>, who <strong>dedicate their lives to the cause of their motherland.<\/strong> They <strong>venerate the motherland personified as the mother goddess; <\/strong>their devotion is solely to their land of birth.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>&#8220;Vande Mataram&#8221;<\/strong> is the <strong>song sung by the Santanas of Ananda Math<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It was <strong>set to music<\/strong> by <strong>Rabindranath Tagore<\/strong> and was first sung by him at the <strong>1896 Indian National Congress session <\/strong>in <strong>Calcutta.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Its political significance emerged during the<strong> Swadeshi and anti-partition movements <\/strong>in <strong>Bengal<\/strong>, with the slogan Vande Mataram<strong> first raised publicly on August 7 1905<\/strong> by thousands of students in Calcutta.\u00a0\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>At the<strong> Varanasi session<\/strong> of the<strong> Indian National Congress <\/strong>that same year, Vande Mataram was<strong> adopted for all-India occasions.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Over time, Vande Mataram became a <strong>rallying cry of freedom fighters<\/strong>, a slogan of resistance against the foreign power.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\"><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>Impact on Indian Revolutionaries Abroad<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/mark><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In<strong> 1907<\/strong>,<strong> Madam Bhikaji Cama<\/strong> raised the<strong> tricolour flag for the first-time outside India <\/strong>in <strong>Stuttgart, Berlin.<\/strong> The words<strong> Vande Mataram<\/strong> were written on the flag.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Two years later, revolutionary <strong>Madan Lal Dhingra\u2019s<\/strong> final words before his execution in London were the same.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In 1909, <strong>Indian patriots in Paris<\/strong> undertook the publication of a <strong>magazine <\/strong>called <strong>Bande Mataram <\/strong>from Geneva.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\"><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>National Status<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/mark><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Being officially adopted as the <strong>national song<\/strong> by the<strong> Constituent Assembly of India<\/strong> on <strong>24th January 1950,<\/strong> the then President of the Constituent Assembly, <strong>Dr Rajendra Prasad,<\/strong> declared that <strong>Vande Mataram should be honoured equally with the national anthem, Jana Gana Mana.\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><em>Note: <\/em><\/strong>The <strong>Constitution never referred to any national song as part of the constitutional framework<\/strong>.
