  • PM-Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana (PM-SGMBY) is the\u00a0world\u2019s largest domestic rooftop solar initiative\u00a0<\/strong>which aims to provide\u00a0free electricity\u00a0upto\u00a0300 units per month\u00a0<\/strong>to eligible households in India by\u00a0promoting rooftop solar plant installations.\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Launched in\u00a02024,<\/strong>\u00a0this scheme aims to\u00a0install rooftop solar in one\u00a0crore\u00a0households nationwide.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n

    Key Provisions<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/mark><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n
      \n
    • Under the scheme, the\u00a0households who opt to install rooftop solar electricity units will get 300 units of electricity for free every month.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • The scheme\u00a0focuses on the household segment with up to 3 kW systems<\/strong>, which covers most of the residential consumers in India.\u00a0\n
        \n
      • The initiative offers a\u00a0subsidy of 60% of the solar unit cost<\/strong>\u00a0for\u00a0systems up to 2 kW capacity<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a040%<\/strong>\u00a0for\u00a0systems between\u00a02 and 3 kW\u00a0capacity,\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0with\u00a0benefits capped at 3 kW.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Households will also be able to access\u00a0collateral-free low-interest loan products\u00a0<\/strong>of around 7% for installation of residential Rooftop Solar systems up to 3 kW.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Through this scheme, the households will be\u00a0able to save electricity bills<\/strong>\u00a0as well as\u00a0earn\u00a0additional\u00a0income through\u00a0sale\u00a0of surplus power to DISCOMs.<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • A\u00a0Model Solar Village<\/strong>\u00a0will be developed in\u00a0each district<\/strong>\u00a0of the country to act as a\u00a0role model for adoption of rooftop solar<\/strong>\u00a0in rural areas.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

        Eligibility criteria for availing subsidy<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/mark><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

        1. The applicant must be a\u00a0citizen of India.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        2. Must\u00a0own a house<\/strong>\u00a0with a roof that is\u00a0suitable\u00a0<\/strong>for installing solar panels.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        3. There should be a\u00a0valid electricity connection\u00a0<\/strong>to the property.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        4. Subsidy is provided\u00a0only once per household.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
