  • The\u00a0Index of Industrial Production (IIP)\u00a0measures the\u00a0short-term changes in the volume of production of a basket of industrial products<\/strong>\u00a0during a given period with respect to that in a chosen base period.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Manufacturing<\/strong>,\u00a0Mining<\/strong>, and\u00a0Electricity<\/strong>\u00a0are the three broad sectors in which IIP constituents fall.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • It is\u00a0published every month\u00a0<\/strong>by the\u00a0National Statistical Office (NSO)\u00a0<\/strong>under the\u00a0Ministry of Statistics and\u00a0Programme\u00a0Implementation.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • The base year of IIP is\u00a02011-2012.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Revised IIP<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/mark><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    • The Ministry of Statistics and\u00a0Programme\u00a0Implementation recently revised the IIP by\u00a0updating the item basket, revising the weighting structure, and expanding sectoral coverage\u00a0<\/strong>to better capture recent developments in industrial activity across the economy.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Under the revised series, the\u00a0base year<\/strong>\u00a0has been updated from 2011\u201312 to\u00a02022\u201323.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • In the new IIP series, the\u00a0coverage has been broadened<\/strong>\u00a0by incorporating\u00a0Gas Supply and Water Supply, Sewerage & Waste Management activities<\/strong>, while\u00a0retaining\u00a0the existing three core sectors<\/strong>\u2014Mining, Manufacturing, and Electricity.<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\n

      • Sectoral Weightage<\/strong>\u00a0in the Revised Series:\u00a0\n

        • Manufacturing (76.06%)<\/strong>\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Mining & Quarrying (11.05%)<\/strong>\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Electricity & Gas Supply (10.87%)<\/strong>\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Water Supply, Sewerage & Waste Management (2.02%)<\/strong>\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • In the\u00a0Mining sector<\/strong>, the new series includes\u00a0minor minerals and rare earth minerals\u00a0<\/strong>in addition to\u00a0major minerals<\/strong>. Similarly, the\u00a0electricity index<\/strong>\u00a0has been classified into\u00a0renewable and non-renewable sources.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • The\u00a0new basket of goods<\/strong>\u00a0to calculate IIP consists of\u00a01,042 products mapped to 463 item groups.<\/strong>\u00a0The older series had just 839 items mapped to 407\u00a0item\u00a0groups.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
