        • The imposition of anti-dumping duty is a\u00a0legitimate trade remedial measure under the World Trade Organization\u2019s\u00a0<\/strong>Anti-Dumping Agreement<\/strong>.<\/strong>\u00a0\n
            \n
          • It\u00a0<\/strong>allows the government of the affected country to take legal action against the dumping country as long as there is\u00a0evidence of genuine material injury to industries in the domestic market<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          • In other cases, the WTO intervenes to prevent anti-dumping measures.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

            How is the anti-dumping duty levied in India?<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/mark><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

            • Anti-dumping measures in India are administered by the\u00a0Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR),\u00a0<\/strong>an attached office of the\u00a0Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce & Industry.<\/strong>\u00a0\n

              • DGTR conducts the\u00a0investigation\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0makes recommendations\u00a0<\/strong>to the Government for\u00a0imposition\u00a0of anti-dumping measures.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
              • Such duty is finally levied by the\u00a0Ministry of Finance.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

                Why in\u00a0News?<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/mark><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

                • According to a recent study, the non-implementation of the recommended anti-dumping duties has resulted in an annual economic loss of \u20b911,938 crore to the domestic industry,\u00a0whereas\u00a0the imposition of these levies could generate an\u00a0additional\u00a0\u20b928,540 crore annually in forex by reducing imports.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                • The study was done by\u00a0C-DEP Research<\/strong>\u00a0(an independent think tank based in New Delhi) and\u00a0Centre\u00a0for WTO Studies.<\/strong>\u00a0\n
