{"id":1091,"date":"2026-05-20T12:23:21","date_gmt":"2026-05-20T12:23:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/materials.simplycurrentaffairs.com\/?p=1091"},"modified":"2026-05-27T12:24:23","modified_gmt":"2026-05-27T12:24:23","slug":"pm-shri-schools","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/materials.simplycurrentaffairs.com\/index.php\/2026\/05\/20\/pm-shri-schools\/","title":{"rendered":"PM SHRI Schools"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#199668\" class=\"has-inline-color\"><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>PM SHRI Schools<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/mark><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\"><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>About<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/mark><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>PM SHRI School (PM&nbsp;ScHools&nbsp;for Rising India) is a&nbsp;<strong>centrally sponsored scheme&nbsp;<\/strong>launched by the Government of India in&nbsp;<strong>2022.&nbsp;<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>This initiative aims to&nbsp;<strong>upgrade and develop more than 14500 Schools across the country&nbsp;<\/strong>by strengthening the selected existing schools from amongst schools managed by Central Government\/ State\/ UT Government\/ local bodies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"406\" height=\"304\" src=\"https:\/\/materials.simplycurrentaffairs.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/image.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1092\" srcset=\"https:\/\/materials.simplycurrentaffairs.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/image.png 406w, https:\/\/materials.simplycurrentaffairs.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/image-300x225.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 406px) 100vw, 406px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The scheme aims to&nbsp;<strong>transform selected schools into model institutions<\/strong>&nbsp;showcasing&nbsp;all components of the<strong>&nbsp;National Education Policy 2020.<\/strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>These schools will focus on<strong>&nbsp;quality education, holistic&nbsp;development&nbsp;and 21st-century skills,<\/strong>&nbsp;while also serving as<strong>&nbsp;mentor institutions for neighboring schools.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group border-list\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>National Education Policy 2020:<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list listborder\">\n<li>The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 was announced to transform the education system&nbsp;in&nbsp;the country and to replace the 34-year-old&nbsp;<strong>National Policy on Education (NPE), 1986.<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>NEP 2020 is founded on the<strong>&nbsp;five guiding pillars<\/strong>&nbsp;of&nbsp;<strong>Access, Equity, Quality,&nbsp;Affordability&nbsp;and Accountability.<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>Highlights of the Policy:<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><br><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. <strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>Early Childhood Care &amp; Education:<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The policy places<strong>&nbsp;early learning at the heart of school reform<\/strong>,&nbsp;recognising&nbsp;that over 85% of brain development happens before age six.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It&nbsp;<strong>replaces the current 10+2 structure<\/strong>&nbsp;in school education with a&nbsp;<strong>new&nbsp;5+3+3+4 structure&nbsp;<\/strong>corresponding to ages 3-8, 8-11, 11-14, and 14-18&nbsp;years&nbsp;respectively. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"306\" height=\"252\" src=\"https:\/\/materials.simplycurrentaffairs.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/image-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1093\" srcset=\"https:\/\/materials.simplycurrentaffairs.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/image-1.png 306w, https:\/\/materials.simplycurrentaffairs.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/image-1-300x247.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 306px) 100vw, 306px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The new system will have&nbsp;<strong>12 years of schooling with three years of Anganwadi\/ pre-schooling.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. <strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>School Education:<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The policy aims to achieve&nbsp;<strong>100% Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) in preschool to secondary level by 2030.<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There will be<strong>&nbsp;no rigid separations&nbsp;<\/strong>between arts and sciences, between curricular and extra-curricular activities, between vocational and academic streams.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Vocational education&nbsp;<\/strong>will start in schools from the&nbsp;<strong>6<\/strong><strong><sup>th<\/sup><\/strong><strong>&nbsp;grade,<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;will include&nbsp;<strong>internships.<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A&nbsp;<strong>National Mission on Foundational Literacy and Numeracy&nbsp;<\/strong>will be set-up to focus on&nbsp;<strong>early language and mathematical skills from Grades 1 to 3 by 2025.<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The<strong>&nbsp;medium of instruction<\/strong>&nbsp;until at least class 5 (and preferably till class 8) should be&nbsp;<strong>home language or mother tongue or local\/regional language.<\/strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The policy gives the freedom to the state, region, and child to choose&nbsp;<strong>three languages&nbsp;<\/strong>to be learned.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. <strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>Higher Education<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong>:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The policy aims to&nbsp;<strong>increase GER in higher education<\/strong>&nbsp;from 26.3% (2018) to<strong>&nbsp;50% by 2035.<\/strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>By<strong>&nbsp;2040<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>all higher education institutions (HEIs) shall aim to become multidisciplinary institutions,<\/strong>&nbsp;each of which will aim to have 3,000 or more students.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There shall,&nbsp;<strong>by 2030<\/strong>, be<strong>&nbsp;at least one large multidisciplinary institution in or near every district<\/strong>.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Affiliation of colleges is to be phased out in 15&nbsp;years&nbsp;<\/strong>and a stage-wise mechanism is to be&nbsp;established&nbsp;for granting&nbsp;<strong>graded autonomy to colleges.\u202f<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Higher Education Commission of India (HECI)<\/strong>&nbsp;will be set up as a&nbsp;<strong>single umbrella body for the entire higher education, excluding medical and legal education<\/strong>.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Internationalization of education&nbsp;<\/strong>will be&nbsp;facilitated&nbsp;through both institutional collaborations, and student and faculty mobility and allowing entry of top world ranked Universities to open campuses in our country.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A new entity &#8211;&nbsp;<strong>National&nbsp;Research Foundation (NRF)&nbsp;<\/strong>&#8211; will be set up to&nbsp;<strong>catalyze and expand research and innovation&nbsp;<\/strong>across the country.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A&nbsp;<strong>National Mission for Mentoring&nbsp;<\/strong>will be&nbsp;established, with a large pool of outstanding senior\/retired faculty, to provide mentoring\/professional support to university\/college teachers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. <strong>Others Focus Areas:<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>An autonomous body, the&nbsp;<strong>National Educational Technology Forum (NETF)<\/strong>, will be created to provide a platform for the free exchange of ideas on the use of technology for school and higher education.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>NEP 2020 emphasizes setting up of&nbsp;<strong>Gender&nbsp;Inclusion Fund, Special Education Zones&nbsp;<\/strong>for disadvantaged regions and groups.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A new&nbsp;<strong>National Assessment Centre<\/strong>,<strong>&nbsp;PARAKH (Performance Assessment, Review, and Analysis of Knowledge for Holistic Development),<\/strong>&nbsp;will be set up as a&nbsp;<strong>standard-setting body<\/strong>&nbsp;for all recognized school boards of India.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>National Institute for Pali, Persian and Prakrit&nbsp;<\/strong>and<strong>&nbsp;Indian Institute of Translation and Interpretation (IITI)&nbsp;<\/strong>to be set up.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>By<strong>&nbsp;2025<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>at least 50% of learners<\/strong>&nbsp;through the school and higher education system shall have<strong>&nbsp;exposure to vocational education.<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The policy also aims to achieve<strong>&nbsp;100% youth and adult literacy.<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The<strong>&nbsp;Centre and the States<\/strong>&nbsp;will work together to&nbsp;<strong>increase&nbsp;the public&nbsp;investment in the Education sector<\/strong>&nbsp;to reach<strong>&nbsp;6% of GDP<\/strong>&nbsp;at the earliest.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PM SHRI Schools About National Education Policy 2020: Highlights of the Policy: 1.
