{"id":1057,"date":"2026-04-03T05:23:26","date_gmt":"2026-04-03T05:23:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/materials.simplycurrentaffairs.com\/?p=1057"},"modified":"2026-04-09T05:26:47","modified_gmt":"2026-04-09T05:26:47","slug":"brics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/materials.simplycurrentaffairs.com\/index.php\/2026\/04\/03\/brics\/","title":{"rendered":"BRICS"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#199668\" class=\"has-inline-color\"><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>BRICS<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/mark><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\"><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>About<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/mark><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>BRICS is an&nbsp;<strong>intergovernmental forum&nbsp;<\/strong>that brings together&nbsp;<strong>eleven major emerging economies and developing countries:<\/strong>&nbsp;<mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-luminous-vivid-orange-color\"><strong>Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia, Indonesia,&nbsp;<\/strong>and<strong>&nbsp;Iran<\/strong>.<\/mark>&nbsp;&nbsp;\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The group was&nbsp;<strong>originally composed&nbsp;<\/strong>of<strong>&nbsp;Brazil, Russia, India, and China<\/strong>, and was expanded for the first time with the admission of<strong>&nbsp;South Africa<\/strong>&nbsp;in 2011.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>During the 15th Summit in Johannesburg, in 2023, the BRICS leaders decided for a new expansion, admitting&nbsp;<strong>Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia,&nbsp;<\/strong>and the&nbsp;<strong>United Arab Emirates. Indonesia<\/strong>&nbsp;formally accepted the invitation to join the group in 2024.&nbsp;&nbsp;\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>BRICS introduced a new<strong>&nbsp;\u201cpartner countries\u201d<\/strong>&nbsp;category at its 2024 summit. Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam have this designation. While falling short of full member status, the \u201cpartner countries\u201d classification allows them to&nbsp;<strong>participate&nbsp;in BRICS summits.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"624\" height=\"307\" src=\"https:\/\/materials.simplycurrentaffairs.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/image-10.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1058\" srcset=\"https:\/\/materials.simplycurrentaffairs.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/image-10.png 624w, https:\/\/materials.simplycurrentaffairs.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/image-10-300x148.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 624px) 100vw, 624px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It serves as a<strong>&nbsp;political and diplomatic coordination forum<\/strong>&nbsp;for countries from the&nbsp;<strong>Global South<\/strong>&nbsp;and for coordination in the most diverse areas.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The&nbsp;<strong>BRICS presidency rotates annually&nbsp;<\/strong>among its member countries.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><em>Note:<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;The BRICS&nbsp;<strong>does not constitute an international organization, nor a formal group.<\/strong>&nbsp;Rather, it is a<strong>&nbsp;forum, a group, or a coordination and cooperation mechanism&nbsp;<\/strong>among countries of the Global South.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group border-list\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>Did you know?<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list listborder\">\n<li>BRICS nations collectively&nbsp;represent&nbsp;approximately 3.3 billion people, accounting for over 40% of the world\u2019s population.
