  • The Government of India introduced the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) to provide affordable housing to all citizens.<\/strong> <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Depending on the areas it serves, the scheme is divided into two sections<\/strong>, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) <\/strong>and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U).<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana\u2013Gramin<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/mark><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n
      \n
    • To achieve the goal of\u00a0“Housing for All” in rural areas<\/strong>, the\u00a0Ministry of Rural Development<\/strong>\u00a0launched the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana\u2013Gramin (PMAY-G) in\u00a02016<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • The scheme aims to\u00a0provide housing with basic amenities to 4.95 crore eligible rural households<\/strong>\u00a0by March 2029.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      Key Features:<\/mark><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n
        \n
      • Minimum Unit Size:<\/span><\/strong> Each house must have at least 25 sq. m<\/strong>, including a dedicated hygienic cooking area.<\/strong> <\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • SECC 2011 Data:<\/span><\/strong> The identification of beneficiaries<\/strong> is carried out on the basis of housing deprivation parameters and exclusion criteria<\/strong> prescribed under the Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC) 2011 <\/strong>after due verification by Gram Sabha.<\/strong> <\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Prioritization:<\/span><\/strong> The scheme prioritizes landless beneficiaries<\/strong> and mandates that a minimum of 60% of targets are earmarked for SC\/ST households <\/strong>at National level.  <\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • In view of the provisions of the Rights of the Persons with Disabilities Act 2016<\/strong>, the States<\/strong> to the extent possible may ensure that 5% of beneficiaries<\/strong> at the State Level are from among Persons with Disabilities. <\/strong> <\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Unit Assistance:<\/span><\/strong> The scheme provides direct financial support \u20b91.20 lakh in plain areas<\/strong> and \u20b91.30 lakh in hilly states<\/strong> (including North Eastern states, J&K, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand) for house construction. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Funding Pattern:<\/span><\/strong> The cost is shared between the Central and State governments <\/strong>in the ratio 60:40 for plain areas<\/strong> and 90:10 for North Eastern and Himalayan states. <\/strong>For Union Territories without a legislature<\/strong>, the Centre provides 100% <\/strong>of the funding. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Geo-Tagging:<\/span><\/strong> It is mandatory<\/strong> to upload geo-tagged, time-stamped photographs at each stage <\/strong>of construction, from the proposed site to completion. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Social Audit:<\/span><\/strong> Social audit is to be conducted in every Gram Panchayat at least once a year. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • 100% Aadhaar-Based Payments:<\/span><\/strong> To prevent misuse of funds, the assistance is provided to the beneficiaries directly into their bank account\/post office account<\/strong> through Aadhaar Payment Bridge System\/Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT)<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

        Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana\u2013Urban<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/mark><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n
          \n
        • Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) was launched by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs <\/strong>in 2015<\/strong> to provide all-weather pucca houses to all eligible urban households <\/strong>across the country. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • The objective of the scheme is to address the urban housing shortage<\/strong> among Economically Weaker Section (EWS)\/ Lower Income Group (LIG) <\/strong>and Middle-Income Group (MIG) categories<\/strong> including the slum dwellers<\/strong> by providing central assistance <\/strong>for construction of new houses or for enhancement of existing houses. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • The Mission seeks to attain its objectives through following programme verticals:<\/strong> \n
            \n
          • In-situ Slum Redevelopment (ISSR)<\/strong> <\/li>\n\n\n\n
          • Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme (CLSS)<\/strong> <\/li>\n\n\n\n
          • Affordable Housing in Partnership with public or private sector (AHP)<\/strong> <\/li>\n\n\n\n
          • Beneficiary-led Individual House Construction or Enhancement (BLC).<\/strong> <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

            Who is Eligible?<\/strong><\/mark><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n
              \n
            • Families<\/strong> (husband, wife, unmarried sons\/daughters) with no pucca house <\/strong>anywhere in India. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
            • Belonging to EWS <\/strong>(annual income \u2264 \u20b93 lakh), LIG <\/strong>(\u20b93\u20136 lakh), MIG <\/strong>(\u20b96\u20139 lakh) categories.<\/strong> <\/li>\n\n\n\n
            • Eligible households can receive up to \u20b92.5 lakh in financial assistance <\/strong>to build or buy their own home.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

              Implementation:<\/strong><\/strong><\/mark><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n
                \n
              • The mission is implemented as a Centrally Sponsored Scheme <\/strong>except the CLSS vertical<\/strong> which is implemented as a Central Sector Scheme.<\/strong> <\/li>\n\n\n\n
              • House<\/strong> to be in the name of the adult female member or in joint name.<\/strong> <\/li>\n\n\n\n
              • Preference<\/strong> to persons with disabilities, ST\/SC\/OBCs, Minorities, Transgender and women (with overriding priority to widow). <\/li>\n\n\n\n
              • All houses<\/strong> to have drinking water, power supply, sewerage and toilet facility.<\/strong> <\/li>\n\n\n\n
              • All houses<\/strong> are geo-tagged <\/strong>to track actual progress on ground. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

                PMAY-U 2.0:<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/mark><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n
                  \n
                • Owing to the increase in affordable housing demand, the scheme was revamped and launched as PMAY-U 2.0<\/strong> in 2024<\/strong> to provide financial support to additional 1 crore poor and middle-class families<\/strong> to construct or purchase a pucca house.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

                  Affordable Rental Housing Complexes (ARHCs):<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/mark><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n
                    \n
                  • For providing decent rental housing at affordable rates to urban migrants\/poor <\/strong>near their place of work, ARHCs<\/strong> was initiated as a sub-scheme under PMAY-U.<\/strong>  <\/li>\n\n\n\n
                  • This aims to provide ease of living to urban migrants\/poor in the industrial sector as well as in non-formal urban economy to get access to dignified affordable rental housing close to their workplace.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
