  • The Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY),\u00a0was launched in 2000 as\u00a0centrally sponsored scheme<\/strong>\u00a0to provide\u00a0all-weather road connectivity to unconnected habitations<\/strong>\u00a0in\u00a0rural areas\u00a0<\/strong>of\u00a0designated population size\u00a0<\/strong>(500+ in plain areas and 250+ in North-East, hill, tribal and desert areas as per Census, 2001).\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • The\u00a0Ministry of Rural Development<\/strong>\u00a0along with\u00a0state governments<\/strong>\u00a0is responsible for\u00a0the implementation of PMGSY.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • The fourth phase of the scheme (PMGSY-IV<\/strong>) was launched in 2024 with the aim of providing\u00a0all-weather road connectivity to 25,000 unconnected habitations\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0connect nearby government educational, health, market, growth centers.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Key Provisions<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/mark><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n
      \n
    • The\u00a0unit<\/strong>\u00a0for PMGSY is a\u00a0Habitation\u00a0<\/strong>and not a Revenue village or a Panchayat.\u00a0\u00a0\n
        \n
      • A habitation is a cluster of\u00a0population, living in an area, the location of which does not change over time.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • A habitation which was\u00a0earlier\u00a0provided\u00a0all-weather connectivity would not be eligible even if the present condition of the road is bad.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • The scheme promotes the\u00a0use of local, non-conventional, and green technologies\u00a0<\/strong>in road construction.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • The PMGSY shall cover\u00a0only the rural areas<\/strong>. Urban roads are excluded from the purview of this\u00a0Programme.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

        Funding Pattern<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/mark><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

        • The fund sharing pattern of PMGSY is\u00a060:40\u00a0<\/strong>between the\u00a0Centre and States\u00a0<\/strong>for all states\u00a0except for\u00a0North Eastern\u00a0and Himalayan States.\u00a0<\/strong>For these\u00a0states\u00a0the fund sharing pattern is\u00a090:10<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
